On the third day of our 2022 Alpine Marathon tour – over 50 passes in 7 days through 6 countries – we were travelling through central Switzerland. Here, the pass routes are more extensive and the passes are further apart. In 350 kilometres of touring, we only managed to cross 5 Alpine passes. One of them, the Oberalp Pass, is already well above the tree line at 2046 metres. We started the ascent from Disentis/Muster – coming from the north-east, heading south-west. The descent then ends in Andermatt. The ascent offers a fantastic panorama of the high Alps with few spectacular bends or hairpin bends. Ideal for the cruiser among you. The descent, on the other hand, offers some serpentine-like passages.
It is always fascinating to see how the railway line emerges and then disappears again behind rocks. The over- and underpasses on the south side are very picturesque.
The apex offers a small selection of restaurants, and those who enjoy the romance of the railway should definitely take a break at the station.
On this day alone, we – the crew from SnapShortFilm and the selected participants from Harry’s Bike Tours – realise the full fascination of this unique Alpine Marathon. The landscape, the panorama and the roads change every day. From narrow and tight, sometimes single-lane and densely wooded roads to these wide, high alpine barren ascents and descents. From 35 degrees in the southern Dolomites to 10 degrees here in central Switzerland.
If you want to experience the Alps in all their fascination, you should go on a tour like this. As “Guided Tours” but also as “Self-Guided Tours”, Harry’s Bike Tours 2023 offers the first official opportunity to take part in this tour. If you would like a foretaste of the Alpine Marathon 2023, you can watch the two TV reports (2-part films) produced by SnapShortFilm from 2023. At any time on motomovie.de and on motorvision.tv.
By the way, because the question has been asked more often: “Self-Guided Tour” means that you get the daily tour documents including coordinates every day, but you organise the day at your own pace and break rhythm. However, you still enjoy the service of booked hotels and many day and evening programme points – naturally at a lower price compared to the classic “Guided Tour”.
