The Col du Galibier is part of the Route des Grandes Alpes and is one of the classics in the French Alps. It is the fifth-highest pass in the Alps. This picture shows the view to the north, the descent down to Valloire. The highest point of the route is at 2642 metres, but is not permitted for all vehicle classes. A few metres below the top of the pass, however, there is a tunnel as an alternative for larger and heavier vehicles.
The northern ramp is well tarmaced, with a wide road layout and generous curves. In other words, plenty of riding fun for every motorcyclist.
As part of the Alpine Marathon 2022, a team from SnapShortFilm accompanied a tour group from Harry’s Bike Tours on the 7-day tour, filmed it and used the footage to produce a two-part programme for the “Alpine Marathon” series for TV, which will be released in mid-2023. The two parts and the previous programmes about Slovenia, Friuli, Engadine, Ardeche, Lozere and eastern Poland can also be viewed on the video platform www.motomovie.de.
The 7-day tour led through 6 countries over 50 mountain passes. A total of around 2500 kilometres were covered. The tour started in the Carnic Alps, in the east – more precisely at Faakersee near Villach. It ended in Monte Carlo. It was an unforgettable experience to be able to travel through and marvel at the Alps in all their diversity in just one week.
