The Route des Grandes Alpes was the centrepiece of the Alpine Marathon 2022. On our tour, which took us through 6 countries over 50 passes in 7 days, we drove past this impressively situated fort on day 5. Originally one of five fortresses built in 1818 to defend the Kingdom of Sardinia, which also included the Duchy of Savoy. It is situated at an altitude of 1350 metres and can only be reached from the main road via a narrow bridge deep down in the gorge.
The entire Alpine Marathon 2022 was as impressive as the location of the fort and its alpine surroundings, with one highlight following the next and the landscape changing significantly from day to day. In just seven days, an impressive overall impression of the European Alpine landscape was created. The tour participants were thrilled.
A crew from SnapShortFilm accompanied a few selected tour participants during the tour. The impressive landscape and driving shots, visits to sights and interviews with the participants will be used to create a two-part episode of the “Alpine Marathon” series for television. It is expected to be shown from spring 2023. The two-part series will then be broadcast on motorvision.tv and will also be available free of charge on the video platform motomovie.de. If you fancy taking part in an Alpine Marathon in 2023 – Harry’s Bike Tours is getting “serious”. There will be some open tour dates for 2023 for the first time. What’s new is that Harry’s Bike Tours will be offering a “Guided Tour” version and also have a “Self-Guided Tour” version in the programme.
The difference to a classically organised tour is that on the “Self-Guided Tour” the tour participants decide their own daily programme and riding rhythm. Hotels are booked, a free supporting programme is organised, but otherwise there is only a morning briefing, tour documents and coordinates. In the evening, the participants come together again at the hotel and enjoy the evening programme. You might make new friends, form new car pools and also have great experiences and a programme “on demand”.
